Journal: Mini Grammar Lesson: Pronoun

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.

A personal pronoun indicates
  • ·         The person(s) speaking (first person): I, me, we or us
  • ·         The person(s) being spoken to (second person): you
  • ·         The person(s) or thing(s) being spoken about (third person): he, him, she, her, it, they, or them

Example

I command you to tell it quickly

I = first person pronoun; you = second person pronoun; it = third person pronoun

Practice
In the sentences below, underline each personal pronoun. Indicate whether the personal pronoun is first, second, or third person.

3-      Language: Technology articles may include acronyms, or abbreviations made up of the initials of a technical term. Read on to find out what PWM stands for.

4-      Text Features: Writers sometimes put additional information in parenthesis ( ). What does the information in parenthesis tell you here?

5-      Identify Main Ideas/Details: How can you tell that Lorenzo would be a good “mechanics man”? What information in the text supports this?

1-      Ask Questions: How is DNA like a ladder?
2-      Ask Questions: Ask and answer a where question about DNA
^ - Interpret the Diagram: Explain where DNA is found within a cell
3-      Ask Questions: Ask yourself what question about chromosomes. Then answer it.
-     Monitor Comprehension: Explain
Tell how genes are related to the DNA molecule.

4-      Science Article. What do the text feature tell you about this section.
5-      Access Vocabulary. Look up the scientific term genome. What words does it come from? When was the word created?
6-      Science Article. Answer the text head question: “What’s a dominant gene?
Monitor Comprehension: Explain
Tell two things you learn about genes on pages 98-99

Genes: All in the Family Part III pp. 100-102

7- Science Article. Explain how the information in this diagram relates to the information in the section.
8- Science Article: State the facts in the paragraph
9- Access Vocabulary: What do you think clasp means? Use the photo and caption to help you figure out its meaning.
Monitor Comprehension: Summarize
Name the genetic traits mentioned on pages 100-101. What will you remember about these details?
10- Ask Questions. Stop and ask a question that is different from the section head. Then answer the question.

WELCOME BACK 2015-16





Dear students, as the new school year begins, I wanted to welcome you back.

The first day of class is the day where you will receive general information about your classes, your teacher expectations, rules, and more. 

Maybe you already know me from previous years, but if you don't, you can read more about me at our school website (link is below) where I have included a brief description of my teaching credentials. 

Considering the time and age we are living and the integration of technology into just about any sector of our society including education, and being such a powerful tool for continuing education and the work world, it is my purpose to use technology in this class as much as it is possible. 

Another important advantage of the use of technology is the environmental preservation. By using technology we contribute to cut our paper use and other resources, and consequently the impact it causes in cutting trees to produce paper, pencils, etc.
